USB flash drive as audio source?

7268 Views 9 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  24gordon
Hi guys,

I have a 128 gig flash drive with a ton of music on it. According to the Infotainment manual it is supposed to be able to play audio files from a USB drive, however the drive is not recognized when placed in the front console USB port. I used the same port to setup my wife’s new LG phone and it worked like a charm so I am assuming the port is good.
Has anyone managed to play music through the USB port other than from their phone?

Thanks

What is the format of the flash drive? NTFS or FAT32? I am not certain but I know of some cars that could only read flash drives with a FAT32 format.
I have tried formatting a couple of different flash drives, both FAT32 and NTFS with the same result. Thanks for the suggestion.
Try using the USB port inside your console that is between the front seats.
Thanks for the suggestion. There is no USB port in our console storage between the seats. One pair is in the dash in front of the shifter and one at the back of the console for rear seat.
Have you tried a smaller size flash drive? (For example, the maximum supported size of a flash drive in my wife's Chrysler 200 is 64 GB.)
I forgot about the flash drive issue. It has been plugged in for over a month now but I haven’t really paid much attention. After this latest post, I looked at it again last night and it now appears, not under USB but under Other. So it does in fact work! Not sure if it was always under other and I didn’t see it (it was a couple of months ago ...my memory isn’t what it used to be) or if I just wasn’t giving it enough time for it to be recognized as connected.
Anyways, I am happy now....it works and I now have access to all my favourite music.

Thanks for ideas.

Had the same problem with my 2022 Blazer. FAT32 didn’t work but changed to NTFS and it works fine now.
I have a Samsung 64GB flash drive, formatted as NTFS, loaded with MP3s. No issues playing them from the center console.

Maybe your flash drive was not formatted correctly
