I guess it depends on what you mean by "banging". Just a hard shift or and actual banging noise? From what I've read and experienced with past Chevy's I've owned, the transmission actually tries to learn and adjust to your driving style. It can take several thousand miles for things to smooth out. The 2013 4-cyl Equinox I had quite a few hard shifts in lower gears during the first 5000 miles or so. After that, it seemed to happen much less often. The 2017 v6 Equinox I had after that did not have the same issue. Sure there were a few hard shifts here and there when it got caught shifting just as I went from braking to accelerating but it was comparatively rare compared to the 4-cyl I had.
