Radio (infotainment) stays on after exiting vehicle **now window motor issue per dealer**

39024 Views 34 Replies 11 Participants Last post by  Ktrib1
Today my infotainment system stopped turning off when I turn off the vehicle and exit.
Have tried a few things including:
removed USB drive with music
disconnected cell phone
removed vehicle profile
tried opening & closing all doors several times (see below)*
called onstar for remote diag. (nothing helpful)
disconnected battery for an hour

*As a side note, the dome light does not come on with the driver door during this problem but does come on with the other three doors & hatch. And when the radio does eventually time out (10 minutes I think), the drive door does activate the dome light. So it does not appear to be the physical door sensor.

None of this helped, so off to the dealer I go with my two month old Blazer with 1200 miles. :-(
If anyone has any ideas, feel free to post.

I would say that it sounds like a sensor problem even though the dome light comes on when you open the door seeing as the dome light also does not work when the radio problem is happening. Definitely a weird issue though.
Tried a few more things.
Including using the secondary FOB, after that problem went away. 6 - 8 time start, stop, exit, radio turns off. Went back to primary FOB and it worked fine until this morning. It is garage kept and weather is not too cold (54 F). Will try using secondary FOB tomorrow.
Mine did this early on until the radio asked for an update. It has not done it since

I was excited this morning when the radio said there was an update available, but after the update the problem persists. Next week I have an appointment at the dealership to have it looked at, hopefully they can figure it out without having to tear apart my two month old vehicle.

Not happy :(
Just to keep this post updated with my newest find.

I am not sure it has anything to do with the door switch/sensor, everytime I open the door the illumination on the shift mode knob on the console lights. So the vehicle knows the door is opening and closing. Very strange that the dome lights do not come on though (they do with 3 other doors). I cannot imagine there is more than one driver door switch/sensor.
My 2020 Blazer just started doing the same thing this week. I'm assuming its a software/update issue vs hardware since we both have the same symptoms during the same period of time. I confirm that the radio do shut off just not when you open door like in the past.

Thanks for the info Dave, I am hoping this thread helps not only us, but others in the future. I will post any further changes with my Blazer, especially after my appointment at the dealer. I would appreciate you posting anything you can as well.

Thank you,

Dan
Made an account just to say that my moms 2020 Blazer just started doing the exact same thing about 4-5 days ago. The entire dashboard stays on when she gets out and locks the car. We are worried it’s going to drain the battery and she’s going to get stuck somewhere.

Seems extremely weird that we all got this at the same time. Maybe some kind of bug with date calculation? Not sure how that could make the car stay on, but who knows. She finally got a pop-up today saying that there is an update available. Going to run it tomorrow and see if it helps...

Hope the update helps.

That is the same time frame as when mine started (4 - 5 days ago).

Her battery should be ok if everything turns off after about 10 minutes, which is when the RAP (retained accessory power) relay shuts the accessories down.
Mine did it just this morning. Twice. Then on the 3rd time it didn't do it. Guess I need to remember to manually turn the radio off before getting out.

Hope that it doesn't act up anymore.

Went by the dealer today to reschedule my appointment and had an interesting conversation with the service advisor. He said they have a brand new Silverado with the infotainment 3 system in it doing the same thing. They re-flashed the computer and that fixed it for almost a week, then the customer said it started doing it again. He and I agreed it is definitely a software issue.
Got a notification of a software update on my to work this am. It downloaded and installed with no issues. Everything is back to normal.

Not sure if mine did an update today or not, but the problem has changed. Now the vehicle thinks the door is open all the time, even driving, dome lights on & door indicator on dash.

At least with the dome light switch turned off, the radio shuts off as soon as I shut off the vehicle.

Ok, this is getting ridiculous. Now my Blazer is back to no dome light & radio stays on.
Think I just need to have the dealer reprogram the computer.
After four days with the new update, everything continues to work as normal.

Was the update automatic?
At dealer, said they will need a few hours to diagnose.

Will update post when I get the diagnosis.

It's been in the bay for 5 hours, they told me 2 hours ago they would need to go into the door to troubleshoot the problem. Feeling pessimistic at this point. ☹
