This is sure a big disappointment!
General Motors (GM) is planning to stop offering Apple CarPlay and Android Auto technologies in future electric vehicles (EVs), starting with the 2024 Chevrolet Blazer, the company confirmed to Reuters. Instead, GM will be developing its own in-vehicle infotainment systems in partnership with Google, a project underway since 2019.

Music will still work fine over bluetooth? Oh great. Like it is a radio from 2010 all over again. Probably so that they can charge a hefty fee for GPS services. All this is going to get people to do is get phone mounts so that they can use their phone screen for the GPS that they do not have to pay another fee for. Just like I did in my older car.
This is no different than your Smart TV and the apps that are available for them. Every TV manufacturer partners with Android/Google to have that app on their TV. Samsung, Sony, LG, Visio, etc. don't make the app. They partner with the technology. The big difference is that GM wants the private label to look like their product. GM has been partnered with Android/Google from day one, as have all the other vehicle manufacturers since these apps were integrated into the vehicle. I would imagine GM, like the others, want to distance itself from foreign providers. This may be the beginning of a trend we will see from automotive manufacturers.

I've always used Bluetooth to access my music. I never use Apple CarPlay. I've always used the GPS on my phone rather than the GPS in the infotainment system. I find that my iPhone GPS is typically more accurate than the vehicle's GPS.

I never use the GPS built into the system either, however I always use Carplay or Google Auto (I have both mobile platforms) to display maps or Waze, or any other supported app through the larger infotainment system. Being forced to mount a phone again in 2024 is a step backwards.
