... that is what i'll be comparing, that is, if the Blazer really is what it used to be years ago and doesn't take on a different route.

GM has a lot of good reasons for not deviating from what we know the Blazer to be but at the same time they can capitalize on a bigger market by changing it appeal to a wider audience.

What are you guys comparing the Blazer to?

As for me it seems bigger than Renegade. But if that's true, I think Jeep has to do something with their current Renegade, cause in my opinion, this car is the worst model in Jeep's line up. In that segment there are way better options for almost the same price, such as Honda H-RV or Mazda CX-3.

The Renegade is just an overall horribly made car that ppl buy because of the Jeep badge. That's probably why all the rival cars are coming out of the woodwork these days.
Sales sure say the opposite and there are far more reasons for other car makers to release a product in this market and one brand doing poor isn't one of them. If Jeep can justify coming out with a product in a market that is the most lucrative these days, then its a no brainier for other car makers.

I'm sure there are a lot of satisfied owners out there, but I was on a Renegade forum because it interested me at one point. Just so many complaints on there and problems with the car once people have driven it for a while. Things I assume Chevy will prevent in the Blazer.

Thats Jeep for you. I remember that Patriot and Compass owners didn't have an easy time either, although with the new Compass generation things might be different now. Making matters even worse, FCA dealers aren't exactly the most helpful when problems arise.
Hopefully this years NAIAS show will reveal alternatives to the Renegade.

There's a recent push from other automakers to produce their own Jeep rivals and 2018 can prove to be an exciting year for the segment, though lets hope Chevy doesn't take too long with the Blazer. Timing is crucial and some people may not be willing to wait too long.

Even when they do come out with a rival it will be hard to even take down the Wrangler. Toyota could have done it if they brought over some of the landcruisers that have only been on sale overseas and never in the US. Most of them sold overseas would do damage to the Wrangler.
